Museum of Art- DeLand Unveils Newest Gift to its Permanent Collection

Florida Artist Jim Houser Exhibition Opens October 26, 2018

DELAND, FL – OCTOBER 24, 2018 – The Museum of Art – DeLand opens the Jim Houser: Retrospective exhibition with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, October 26th at its galleries located at 600 N. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand. The exhibition features more than 40 pieces of Houser’s work from 1997 to 2018. The opening night reception is $10 for non-members and no charge for Museum members.

Retrospective includes a comprehensive collection of work from this artist who is famous for his paintings of seaside locations and beach town streets. A Floridian, Houser’s work feels familiar to anyone who’s ever spent time on Florida’s Atlantic coast. “We don’t just see the painting, we are flooded by memories and feelings triggered by what we see ‘in’ the painting,” says George S. Bolge, CEO of the Museum of Art – Deland.

In addition to the Jim Houser: Retrospective exhibition, the Museum will be débuting a painting by Gary Erbe, titled, Bust on a Pedestal, which is a recent gift to its permanent collection. Following the opening night event, both exhibitions will be on view until January 6th , 2019.

Admission is $5 for these exhibitions and members and children under 12 can visit at no charge. The Museum is open 10am-4pm Tuesday through Saturday, and 1-4pm on Sunday. For more information about the exhibitions or to become a member, visit the Museum’s website at MoArtDeLand.org
