An exhibition featuring more than 40 works by a Florida artist known for his paintings of seaside locations and beach-town streets opens Oct. 26 at The Museum of Art — DeLand.

“Jim Houser: Retrospective” debuts with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at the museum, 600 N. Woodland Blvd. Tickets are $10 and the artist is scheduled to attend.

Houser’s work feels familiar to anyone who has ever spent time on Florida’s Atlantic Coast. “We don’t just see the painting, we are flooded by memories and feelings triggered by what we see ‘in’ the painting,” museum CEO George S. Bolge, said in a release.

Now 90 and living in West Palm Beach, Houser was born in Jacksonville and studied at various institutions including the Ringling School of Art, Florida Southern College, Art Institute of Chicago and University of Florida. He taught at what is now Palm Beach State College during the 1960s and 1970s.

“Retrospective” continues through Jan. 6, 2019.
