Docent Program Interest Meeting
October 20, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Informational Session
Are you an art lover, a history buff, enjoy public speaking, have extra time, like to meet new peopleā¦? If you answered yes, then we invite you to attend the Docent Training Informational Meeting.
Docents are a vital link between what’s displayed in the Museum and how visitors respond to what they see. Our docents are a diverse group of volunteers who share a passion for art and the community. They are active, enthusiastic, imaginative, and knowledgeable. Historically, a docent was a tour guide who talked while visitors listened. Today, docents do so much more than just talk.Ā Our docents help visitors of all ages discover the world of art by creating inquiry-based field studies and tours centered on the art.
To qualify as a docent you should have:
-
-
-
- An abiding interest in the visual arts
- Good public speaking skills
- Ability to work well with children and adults
- Flexibility, dependability, time, and commitment

Our training program includes classes and workshops in: Theories of teaching and learning, museum education, art history, methods of interpretation, field study and touring techniques, information on current and permanent exhibitions, principles and elements of art and design and studio practices.
