A Deeper Understanding of Homelessness
February 18, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Presented by Dr. Rajni Shankar-Brown
Please join us at the Museum of Art DeLand for an interactive presentation on homelessness by scholar-educator and human rights artivist Dr. Rajni Shankar-Brown, featuring Tampa-based Renato Rampolla’s new photo exhibition Dignity – The Light Within.
Dr. Shankar-Brown, Jessie Ball duPont Chair of Social Justice Education at Stetson University and an Executive Board Member of the National Coalition for the Homeless, has spent most of her life dedicated to addressing, ending, and preventing homelessness through intersectional justice approaches. This presentation will provide an intimate view and deeper understanding of homelessness, along with an equity-centered call to action. In juxtaposition with Rampolla’s powerful photography exhibit, Shankar-Brown will weave together historical and current research, diverse narratives, and original poetry from her new collection Tuluminous. Richard Blanco, Presidential Inaugural Poet and Education Ambassador of the Academy of American Poets called Tuluminous “a marvelous and meaningful testimony of the power of language to heal and transform.”
