Reflections on Water

April 22 @ 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm

An Artistic and Scientific Dialogue

The Museum of Art – DeLand is proud to partner with Stetson University’s Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience (IWER) to host an Earth Day panel and art installation, Reflections on Water: An Artistic and Scientific Dialogue. The night will be underscored by a breathtaking, immersive video projection by artist Luciana Abait. “The Glass Wall,” will displayed on the outside of the front wall of the Aquatic Center building.

The panel consists of Martha Underriner of the Museum of Art – DeLand as moderator, artist Luciana Abait, Dr. Jason Evans of the Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience,  Stephanie Liskey of Sailforth Productions, and Brenda Wells of the Florida Springs Council.

Luciana Abait is a multi-media artist, originally from Argentina. Her work focuses on climate change, environmental fragility, and their impact on immigrants. Her work, “The Glass Wall” draws attention to the global water crisis, representing the abilities and limits of humanity’s power to control nature. The installation awakens viewers to the threat of natural disasters, the importance of water conservation, but also “the hope that humans can overcome the challenges of climate change and create a sustainable future.”

Luciana’s work is global in nature, and the panel’s goal will be to localize the conversation to Florida water concerns and the science and communication surrounding those concerns.
