Camp Create 2024

June 10 @ 9:00 am - July 26 @ 4:00 pm

Kids' Summer Art Camp

Camp Create at the Museum of Art – DeLand is back for summer 2024! Our 6-week summer camp program will be available for 6-12 year olds from June 10th – July 26th.

This summer our Campers will explore all of the art-filled adventures that they can dream of! Each week a new theme will ignite their creativity and imaginations. Campers will be inspired to create 2D and 3D projects and will enjoy a variety of age appropriate hands-on art experiences. Campers will have two sessions each day and work on multiple art projects each week. We take breaks throughout the day for snacks, lunch, and games. Visits to the Museum’s galleries will enhance the educational experience and provide additional motivation and inspiration.

Each week is a different theme so Campers may register for more than one week.  Children will be placed in small groups to ensure that they receive personalized attention. No previous art-making experience necessary.

We invite our Campers to bring their imaginations and discover the joy of making art!

Camp Create 2024 Schedule

Week 1: Pop Art Week

June 10th-14th

Join us for a week immersed in the vibrant world of pop art and have the opportunity to make eye-catching artistic creations featuring bold shapes, vivacious bright and neon colors, unique patterns, and distinct outlines. Be inspired by the style of artists like Wayne Thiebaud, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and learn about the emergence of this exciting form of art.

Week 2: Action Arts Week

June 17th-21st

Have you thought of watching your favorite comic book characters come to life and leap out of the pages into your own artistic creations? Or have you ever wanted to make your own original storyline and comic book with vibrant pop art? This week is your chance to make your favorite action packed show come to life through your own art! Campers will explore how to make their own characters and stories in different styles like anime, manga, graphic novels, and pop art.

Week 3: 3D Art Week

June 24th-28th

Jump out of the 2-dimensional page and carve, sculpt, and mold works of art that have depth. Campers will engage in hands-on art activities to create 3-dimensional works of art using air dry clay, carving tools, and papier-mache to make projects such as relief sculptures, wearable sculptures, assemblages, and functional pieces such as customized building sets. The work of sculptural artists like Yayoi Kusama, Nick Cave, and Louise Nevelson will be referenced for inspiration.

Week 4: FantaSci Week

July 8th-12th

Ignite your sense of wonder and curiosity, letting your imagination roam into the “make-believe” this week! We invite campers to venture into the realm of fantasy and science fiction to explore unseen worlds, futuristic technology, super hero parallel universes, brilliant galaxies, and the phenomena of time travel from an artistic perspective.

Week 5: Glow Week

July 15th-19th

This week, create your own luminescent works of art that bring an explosion of light to any dark space! Campers will make art inspired by things around us that exude fluorescence and radiate light, like the glistening moon, fireflies ablaze, and mysterious bioluminescent creatures that dwell under the sea. We will use materials such as glow in the dark and black light reactive paints to create light reactive artwork using color theory.

Week 6: Decades Week

July 22nd-26th

Get ready to travel back in time to the 70s, 80s, & 90s to learn about the rise of new art eras and their impact. Discover art styles and techniques that reflect the decades; like neon designs from the 80s, groovy colors from the 70s, and street art from the 90s. Campers will make art inspired by the style of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Jim Dine, and Helen Frankenthaler.
