International Juried Exhibition | Contemporary Sculpture
The Museum of Art – DeLand proudly presents the inaugural FORM + SPACE 2024 International Juried Exhibition. The exhibition will be curated by the Museum of Art – DeLand staff along with Eliza Au, our guest juror. She has been an artist in residence at the Northern Clay Center as a McKnight Resident, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Museum of Contemporary Craft. The exhibition will be on display at the Museum of Art – DeLand downtown location October 4 – December 29, 2024, in DeLand, Florida.
Prizes include:
First Place – $2,000 and an exhibition in one of the Museum’s galleries in 2026 or 2027.
Second Place – $1,000
Third Place – $500
Additional awards will be presented as available.
Application Requirements
All work must be ready for installation. Wall hanging works are restricted to a weight limit of no more than 50 pounds per hanging component. If there are multiple hanging components, each one must be less than 50 pounds. Works are not able to be hung from the ceiling. The Museum of Art – DeLand reserves the right to exclude any entry that does not adhere to guidelines or is not able to be installed. Artists are responsible for works with complex installations and are recommended to make an appointment with Museum staff to install their own work. Artists are strongly encouraged to include installation instructions when shipping selected work.
There is no size limit but please note the ceiling height of the gallery is 10 feet. The exhibition space is on the second floor of the building, so all components of works must be able to go up stairs or fit into an elevator. The elevator dimensions are 80in x 49in x 73in. The elevator door opening is 80in x 40in.
Artists may submit up to three artworks for consideration. Submission cost is $10 per each artwork submitted. Each artwork will require a separate application but artists may submit up to three images per artwork on each application. Please make sure additional images are clearly labeled as second views (Artwork Title View #1, Artwork Title View #2). One video file per artwork may be submitted in lieu of an additional photo. Images should be of high quality with a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side.
This exhibition will be widely publicized and the Museum of Art – DeLand reserves the right to use images of accepted work for the purpose of publicity and publication. An exhibition catalog including all of the works will be mailed to each of the artists after the exhibition.
Artwork will be insured while on site at the Museum of Art – DeLand. Artists are responsible for pre-paying all shipping costs and for insuring the work during shipping. Shipped artwork must also include a prepaid return label and must be shipped via FedEx or UPS. If shipping internationally or if alternative shipping arrangements are needed, please make arrangements with museum staff. Shipped artwork must arrive between September 10–13. Accepted artwork may also be hand delivered by appointment from September 18–20. Artists who prefer to install their own work can make an appointment with Museum staff to install work during business hours and all artwork must be installed by September 27. All other work must be shipped within the timeframe outlined and no artwork may be withdrawn from the exhibition before December 29. Work may be picked up between January 2–4 or January 7–9, 2025, and remaining work will be shipped at the end of January. Work that is unclaimed or does not include a return shipping label will be discarded at the end of January.
Artists from any country may apply. Works in any media may be submitted including digital works, but artists are responsible for supplying all technology needed for digital works. All artwork must be original and produced within the last three years.
To receive their monetary awards, winners must fill out and submit an IRS form W-9. Artists are solely responsible for any taxes due to local, state, and federal governments. Awards will be paid to the winners within 30 days following the close of the exhibition.
All inquiries for purchase will be directed to the artist and the artist is responsible for handling any purchase transactions as well as delivery to the buyer of the work after the closing of the exhibition.
