Native Floridian Dr. Kitty Oliver to Perform An Evening of Jazz and Multicolored Memories

The Museum of Art – DeLand is presenting An Evening of Jazz and Multicolored Memories, Performance by Dr. Kitty Oliver from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 at 600 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, Florida. “It is a professional cabaret performance of inspirational jazz vocals and literary stories tracing the common journey of native-born Americans and immigrants as they adapt to life in a diverse society and social change on a global scale,” according to Pam Coffman, curator of education at the Museum of Art – DeLand.
Oliver, a native Floridian, is a former professor and founder of the “Race and Change” historical archive of cross-cultural race and ethnic relations oral histories. It is the only one of its size and scope in the U.S. She is a sought-after performer with insights and research that have been featured in books, public television and webcast radio productions.
“Oliver will share her personal experiences moving from segregation to integration to multicultural diversity in the international arena drawing on poignant, humorous, revealing reflections on race relations in a hopeful, healing way,” said Coffman. This program is family-friendly.
The doors open at 5 p.m. for a reception and to view the art exhibition, African American Art: We Too Dream America prior to the performance that is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to visit with Oliver following her performance. Her CD of original inspirational jazz music and books will be on sale at this event. Tickets are $10 for members, $15 for non-members and children and students are free.
