Poetic Visions Poetry Competition

Contest Submission Period

The Museum of Art DeLand, Creative Happiness Institute, and MainStreet Art & Culture Slam of DeLand proudly present The 2023 Poetic Visions poetry contest, an Ekphrastic poetry competition.

Participants will be asked to write a poem inspired or prompted by up to 40 different pieces of artwork on display at The Museum of Art – DeLand. All submissions will be curated by a panel of five esteemed judges and one poem will be selected to represent each work of art.

Poets may submit up to 3 different poems (3 different works of art as prompts). The winners will then be selected by the general public, who will be able to view the submissions right alongside the artwork in a special exhibit and then vote for their favorites. Entry is free. Selected submissions will be eligible for inclusion in the 2023 Poetic Visions Anthology.

There will also be a two-week video contest conducted on the Museum of Art – DeLand YouTube channel after public voting concludes in the exhibition. Here, authors of the winning entries may contact the Museum to record a reading or performance of their poem while next to their selected artwork.

Second place: $100
Third place: $50
Video Winner: $100
Youth Prize 14 and under: $50
Youth Prize 15-18: $50

Poetic Visions Timeline

.  Exhibition opens Friday, March 31 and continues through July 16 at the Museum of Art – DeLand’s 600 N. Woodland Blvd. location.

. There will  be an opening reception on March 31st from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

. The voting period for the public will begin on March 31 and end May 14.

.  Video voting will begin Monday, May 15 and will be tallied Monday, May 29.

.  Friday June 2, there will be a wine and cheese reception from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Awards will be announced and there will be a selected poetry reading between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
