Biodiversity & Environmental Justice
June 5 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

With Dr. Rajni Shankar-Brown
Join us for a presentation on “Biodiversity and Environmental Justice” by the internationally distinguished Stetson University Professor, biodiversity scholar, poet, artist, and steering member of the National Environmental Justice Institute and the Center for Sustainable Communities, Dr. Rajni Shankar-Brown.
This talk is presented alongside the exhibit, A Life in the Wild by renowned nature photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen. Dr. Shankar-Brown will not only highlight research but also explore the interconnectedness of our planet through storytelling, poetry, and song. The presentation will emphasize the importance of protecting biodiversity as a cornerstone of environmental justice. It will also delve into the profound ways human activities have disrupted ecosystems and upset the delicate balance of nature, both globally and locally. This talk invites us to reflect on our shared responsibility to embrace sustainable practices, fostering a healthier planet and preserving the rich biodiversity of our world for generations to come.
After her talk, Dr. Shankar-Brown will be available for a book signing with her collection of poetry Tuluminous, which supports youth experiencing homelessness—while lifting ecojustice and the arts. The book has been praised by Presidential Poet Richard Blanco as “a marvelous and meaningful testimony of the power of language to heal and transform.”
