Writing Workshop with Joe Cavanaugh

The Art of Poetry is an exploration and practical workshop on creativity and writing prize-winning poetry, the second in our series of three poetry workshops in conjunction with Poetic Visions 2023.

This hands-on poetry writing workshop is presented by Joe Cavanaugh, a local poet with an intimate relationship with the creative force over his 20+ year career as an artist, writer, teacher, and leader in local, state, and national poetry groups.

Artists and aspiring poets will enjoy awakening their creative awareness in this workshop. It will present a way tap into their inner creative source that holds the secret to creating prize-winning poems.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Joe Cavanaugh taught Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking at Cal State University Monterey Bay. He got his formal start as a poet as a member of the Live Poets of Daytona Beach, served as resident of the Florida State Poets Association for 4 year, and is currently Vice President of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, and is Chair of the Blackberry Peach Spoken Word, and Poetry Slam Championships. Every year he serves as a judge for many local, state, and national poetry contests.

A lifelong poet and writer, Cavanaugh has published 7 books, including 4 books of poetry including POETRY JAM WITH TOAST AND TEA, LOVE HAPPENS: A TARGET ON MY CHEST, CALIFORNIA DREAMIN, and his most recent TRANSCENDENTAL TARGETS: SEARCHING FOR THE ECSTATIC IN A CLOUD OF WHITE BUTTERFLIES.
