The Exquisite Moving Corpse

October 14, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Film Screening & Artist Talk

The Museum of Art – DeLand presents a screening and artist talk featuring The Exquisite Moving Corpse, a film inspired by the Surrealist “Exquisite Corpse” French parlor game.

In a modern-day twist on the original concept, The Exquisite Moving Corpse is a cinematic chain letter, started in March 2020 by artists Chip Lord, Jack Massing, and Sean Miller, who created the first three minutes before handing off the project to an evolving list of artists.

Over the next two years, sixty artists participated in this exciting experimental film project. Each made a one-minute clip in response to the last frame of the previous minute. Sixty artists in sixty minutes. Most of the footage was shot, shared, and edited as participating artists worked in quarantine. Some produced their one-minute video within hours, while others took weeks to complete their clip. Two years of collective efforts produced an open-source project within an isolated, yet digitally connected, creative community of international artists. Contributors include: Mel Chin, Mark Dion, Kara Hearn, Hillerbrand+Magsamen, Nina Katchadourian, Kristin Lucas, Mary Mattingly, Tony Oursler, Phillip Pyle II, William Wegman, and more.

Join us for this unique film screening and artist discussion, where we will be joined by project organizer Sean Miller and participating artist Terri Witek.
