DELAND, FL – SEPTEMBER 14, 2018 – The Museum of Art – DeLand will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, September 22, 2018 as a part of the Smithsonian magazine’s 14th annual Museum Day. Museum Day represents a nationwide commitment to access, equity and inclusion. This year’s theme is
Women Making History, honoring women in society who are trailblazers in the arts, sciences, innovation and culture and emboldening others to be pioneers.
The Museum’s featured woman artists are Janet Siegel Rogers and Dorothy Gillespie. The Janet Siegel Rogers: Retrospective exhibition is being shown at the Museum’s Downtown Galleries located at 100 N. Woodland Blvd. in Deland, FL. Rogers’ objective as a painter is to explore and experiment with color interaction. She utilizes the transparent nature of an oil and wax process to evoke a depth of field with a translucent quality. Retrospective will be shown through October 21, 2018.
Gillespie’s Exhibition: Color, Light and Motion is located at the Museum’s Uptown location at 600 N. Woodland Blvd. in DeLand, FL. Gillespie was an American artist and sculptor who became known for her large and colorful abstract metal sculptures. When visiting the Museum use the
