SUMMARY:Spring 2024 Studio Artist Class
DESCRIPTION:The Studio Artist Class is a class meant to grow students’ abilities technically and conceptually through a focused 6 week session of classes.  Students will study elements and principles of art\, in-depth techniques\, and study a variety of artists to inspire their work.  Each 6 week session has its own theme and focus. \n												$90 for Museum members\, $100 for not-yet\n												members. \n												10 student maximum per session. \nSpring 2024:\nWEDNESDAY AFTERNOON SESSIONS 3:15PM-4:30PM\n											FOR AGES 6-12\nSESSION 1A: MEET THE MASTERS (1/17-2/21) \nSESSION 1B: VISUAL STORYTELLING (2/28-4/10\, NO CLASS 3/27) \n \nTHURSDAY MORNING SESSIONS 10:00AM-11:15AM\n										FOR AGES 6-12\nSESSION 2A: ART AROUND THE WORLD (1/18-2/22) \nSESSION 2B: POP ART (2/29-4/11\, NO CLASS 3/28) \nSession Descriptions\nMeet the Masters: In this session\, students will explore the techniques and styles of important historical artists. They will use a variety of media such as pastel\, watercolors\, and more to explore art fundamentals and create original artworks. \nVisual Storytelling: Students will explore all types of visual storytelling in this session through designing and drawing storyboards\, designing 3D characters\, and creating stop motion animation on iPads. \nArt Around the World: In this session\, students will explore techniques and styles of art from diverse cultures around the world. From Japan to South America\, this class will create works of art inspired by other countries far and wide. \nPop Art: Studio artists will be all about the food in this 6 week session that reimagines the work of artists such as Wayne Thiebaud and Andy Warhol. Students will explore both 2D and 3D methods to create their own pop art food inspired artworks. \nThe Artist Toolbox: Texture:  Get inspired by artists like MC Escher\, Frida Kahlo\, Salvatore Dali and Leonardo Davinci as we explore the best methods to make textures a part of your art toolbox. Learn how and where to include texture\, shading and highlights. Work in a variety of media\, including pen\, pencil\, colored pencils\, charcoal and scratch board. \nThe Artist Toolbox: Color: Take a deep dive into the ways artists use colors to move your eye across a canvas to capture your undivided attention. Discover the color plan behind a Wayne Thiebaud cake painting\, and learn how Picasso uses limited color to give focus to his work. Every artwork begins with a powerful\, well-conceived color scheme. Create artwork using colored pencils\, pastels\, oil pastels and more. \nInstructors\nShelby Wren is an artist specializing in painting\, drawing and pottery. She has loved creating\nsince she was young and was thrilled to learn that through an education in art\, she could push\nher skills and knowledge to become a “career creator.” Shelby holds a Bachelor of Arts degree\nin Art History from the University of Central Florida and an Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts from\nValencia College. She has exhibited her artwork in juried exhibitions and festivals in the Orlando\narea and was selected as an emerging artist for the Winter Springs ARToberFEST in 2016 and\n2017. Shelby has been teaching children’s art classes for over 6 years and will be teaching the\n													Wednesday afternoon sessions. \nJo Ann Raulerson attended Ringling College of Art and Design\, graduating in 1977 with a fine\narts degree. She has continued her education at Penland School of Arts & Crafts and Ringling\nSummer watercolor workshops\, and watercolor workshops with Herbie Rose and Bill Maurer. Jo\nAnn has taught art at Camp Create\, the Orlando Museum of Art summer camp\, and spent one\nsummer teaching at Camp Carolina. She has also taught children’s art classes for 25 years. Jo\nAnn enjoys all mediums of art but specializes in watercolor and drawing. She has extensive\nexperience in mosaic\, handmade paper and collage. Jo Ann will be teaching the Thursday\nmorning sessions. \nFontaine Rodgers is an artist/educator with 16 years teaching experience in the International\nBaccalaureate program and is certified for grades K-12 in art. She holds a BFA\, cum laude\, from\nthe Maryland Institute\, College of Art. An active member in the Central Florida Printmakers and\nthe Sumi-e Society of America\, she has taught a variety of classes for the Crealdé School of Art\nin Winter Park and Lake-Sumter State College. Fontaine will be teaching the Teen Studio Artist\nclass. \nCancellations and Refunds:\n\nNo fees will be returned or credits issued for failure to attend.\nThere will be no make-up classes due to a student’s illness\,\n											unanticipated travel or other reasons not the responsibility of the Museum\n											of Art – DeLand.\nIf a class is canceled\, students will be notified at least two (2) days\n											prior to the date of class\, and tuition will be refunded. The Museum\n											reserves the right to substitute teachers as needed.\nA refund will be issued minus a $25 processing fee for cancellation up\n											to 7 days prior to beginning of the session.  No refund will be issued after\n											the 7 day deadline.\n\nCheck in/Check Out:\n\nStudents cannot be dropped off more than 10 minutes before the start\n											of class and students are to be picked up promptly after the end of class.\n											Please let the museum staff know if you are running late. A fee of $1 per\n												minute will be assessed for late pick up or early drop off.\nStudents can only be signed out by authorized adults with\n												identification each day.\nIf any changes need to be made to authorized adults for pick up list\,\n												changes must be submitted in writing to Martha Underriner.
